About this series
The work Dreizehn is a series of 13-year old girls. Physically almost grown up, they still have to grow into their roles. In a state between childlike innocence and feminine self-assertion, they try things out, search for their own identity. „Some of the girls appear to have a tentative grip on the women they might one day become, experimenting with personal style in the form of jewelry, makeup and fashion. Others still cling to outward signs of childhood: a “Hello Kitty” T-shirt here; star-and-crescent-moon decals on a bedroom wall there.“ (Michael O’Sullivan, Washington Post).
Provocative, distant, or bored in their body language, they remind us of that time of youth when great expectations and ignorance, euphoria and uncertainty were so close together.
