On The Night That We Leave

Alisa Resnik

2022 — Berlin, Odessa, St Petersburg

About this series

From Berlin to Saint Petersburg, passing through Odessa or Italy, the ultimate location of this series is the night. Alisa Resnik crosses it, explores its entrails, on a path to meet it, in the deserted streets and landscapes where a few furtive silhouettes slip by, in the pale interiors and the apparitions of fragile or sometimes ecstatic faces.
From muted glimmers to bursts of colour in the shadows, the photographer describes what might seem like a wandering, but which turns out to be her journey and her story. The story, quivering and subtle, of one who belongs nowhere and yet is entirely part of this nocturnal world. Through her powerful images, she reveals its beauty and grace. Then, like a welcoming home, it receives and envelops her. As the pages turn, Alisa Resnik takes us along with her and we surrender to the brutality as well as the sweetness of the night.
