An Inner Journey

Arié Botbol

2017 – work in progress — Morocco

About this series

This work is an ode to loneliness and isolation, an appreciation of that moment of stillness, during the day, during a trip, that brings us closer to who we are.
Taking pictures of people who are alone or isolated is a way for me to reflect on the human condition and the perpetually connected environment in which we now live.
I set out to observe people, to catch intimate moments of reflection with my camera, to connect with them and to translate their spiritual journeys into images. I don’t pay attention to landscapes. I am looking for emotions, below the surface.

Born in 1967 in Morocco, Arié Botbol grew up in Nice until 1971, then in Tel Aviv until 1974, before returning to live in France. After creating and developing his own communication agency for 15 years, he now devotes himself exclusively to photography.

Always looking for the lost paradise of his childhood, he has inherited from his birth country a taste for colours, flavours and refinement.

Even when he turns his camera towards other cultures (Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Rajasthan, Japan, Chile, Brazil …) his “Mediterranean mother” always remains a non ending  source of inspiration.

He likes to tell simple stories, to create lively atmospheres and to construct images with rigorous composition. A lover of colour and graphic settings, he offers images full of humanity and intimacy.

In 2017 he joins the HANS LUCAS photographers’ agency and works for the national and local press. Since 2018, he has been working in Nice as a Photo reporter and Author.
